Part of My Valley

The Valley we call home is very beautiful. I found a quote that I though very appropriate for these photos!
"By reading the scriptures I am so renewed that all nature seems renewed around me and with me. The sky seems to be a pure, a cooler blue, the trees a deeper green. The whole world is charged with the glory of God and I feel fire and music under my feet."
This shot was taken about half a mile south of our home, looking northeast.

This photo was taken about .5 mile north of our home looking west.

Retreads

One of my long time Flickr friends Debbie has a weekly project she calls Retread Tuesday. She reworks one of her old photos and posts it with a link back to the original. It sounded like a fun project so I decided to give it a go. This is the result.

The original photo was taken on November 25, 2006 and uploaded to Flickr on April 27, 2007 and has

COY

Coy is defined as:
~ Tending to avoid people and social situations; reserved.
~ Affectedly and usually flirtatiously shy or modest.

Although this swan did not avoid me but allowed me to get within two or three feet.

Taken at Silver Lake in Rockingham County, Virginia.

Blackwater Falls, West Virginia

This past weekend, Mike and I took off to West Virginia with a couple of destinations in mind. The main point of interest for me was Blackwater Falls. Blackwater Falls is located in Canaan Valley, near Davis, West Virginia and is the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories then twist and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge. The "black" water is a result of tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia.

We also went to Dolly Sods which was a little disappointing. We had hoped to be able to see the fabulous views I had seen photos of but they were off the road (actually more like a path). As we were in the car rather than the four-wheel drive truck so we were both concerned about the poor condition of the road. But I'm sure we will be going back.
